Donny van de Beek admits that he could leave Manchester United this summer after midfielder marked his return from knee injury by scoring a sublime winner against Lyon

Donny van de Beek has admitted his future may lie away from Manchester United after he made a goalscoring return to the team following six months out with injury.

Van de Beek netted a superb winner as United beat Lyon 1-0 at Murrayfield in his first appearance for the club since the victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford in January, when he was stretchered off the pitch in tears after suffering a horror knee injury.

But the Dutchman, 26, is among the players manager Erik ten Hag will listen to offers for in the summer, with the former Ajax midfielder available for around £20million.

Van de Beek conceded he may need to leave United just three years after signing for £40m in order to revitalise his career but still hopes to push his way back into Ten Hag’s plans.

‘For now it is hard to say where my future is,’ he said. ‘Yes [he could stay], but it’s also a possibility that I move, so everything is open. I’m focussing on getting as fit as possible and pushing on.

‘In football you never know, especially for me. I’ve been linked with so many clubs… but I’m not focusing on that.

‘I’m proud to wear this shirt and I realise that every day. Let’s see what happens.’

Van de Beek also said he has ‘high expectations’ of Andre Onana, who is undergoing a medical ahead of a £47m move to Old Trafford, having been a team mate of the Cameroonian goalkeeper during their time at Ajax.

‘He’s a great goalkeeper, I play with him for many years,’ he said. ‘He’s a great personality. He’s good with his feet, good on the line so my expectations are high. He’s a top-class goalkeeper.’

Speaking on his return after a long injury-lay off, Van de Beek said: ‘I know it is a friendly game but it is a massive moment and makes you realise how much you enjoy football.

‘I’m coming back from a big injury, have been training for a few weeks and now I play the first minutes. I’m fit and I still need to keep going and train as hard as possible.’
