Manchester City’s English midfielder ’emerges as a shock target for Bayern Munich’

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has reportedly emerged as a shock target for Bayern Munich.

According to BILD, the German club have a strong relationship with Phillips’ agency CAA Stellar.

Phillips joined City from Leeds for £42million last summer but his future at the Etihad Stadium is uncertain following a frustrating campaign.

Although City won the treble, Phillips started just two games in the Premier League, both of which came after the title was already secured.

With City looking to secure the signing of Declan Rice from West Ham it is possible that Phillips could depart.

If Bayern are unable to sign Phillips then they could turn to PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare.

Phillips scored his first England goal this week in the thrashing of North Macedonia and will be eager to get more minutes at club level next season in order to retain his place in the national team setup.

Bayern have already signed Konrad Laimer on a free transfer from RB Leipzig, with Thomas Tuchel eager to strengthen his squad further.

West Ham are also reportedly interested in Phillips as part of a deal that would see Rice join City.

Bayern had been interested in signing Rice themselves but such a move appears unlikely at present, with City looking to beat Arsenal to the signing of the 24-year-old.

Ilkay Gundogan is set to leave City to join Barcelona on a free transfer.

Manchester City’s English midfielder actually needs more game time. But is Bayern the answer?
