World Heavyweight Boxing REMATCH

Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua 2 CONFIRMED for August 20 in Saudi Arabia

Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua 2 has finally been confirmed.

The rematch will go down on August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight world titles on the line.

Usyk declared: “I have a purpose, and with the Lord’s assistance, I will accomplish my task!”

Joshua gave a longer statement.

He said: “What a roller coaster journey, fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world for the 12th consecutive time.

“I became the two-time unified heavyweight champion, united the division, won another belt, lost the belts, and now I have my date with history scheduled to become the three-time unified heavyweight champion of the world.

“What an opportunity.

“Fighting at the championship level back-to-back has its advantages and disadvantages, but I make the choice every day to grow, get stronger, and learn from my mistakes.

“A motivated fighter is a dangerous fighter, and I am the more motivated I have ever been,” said Joshua.

Usyk, however, returned to his home to help defend his country once Russia invaded Ukraine, which caused a delay in the fight.

Usyk ultimately made the decision to leave Ukraine and start preparing for the Joshua rematch because he thought it would be a significant triumph for his nation at this difficult period.

“I decided to start preparing for a rematch with Anthony Joshua, a large number of my friends support me, all the rest of the good and peace, Thank God for everything.

“That’s how I will help my country more and it’s better than being in territorial defence and running around Kyiv with a machine gun,” Usyk said back in March.

Usyk is rumored to have been working out in Poland in order to be ready for his bout with Joshua, but AJ, a former two-time world champion, has been getting ready for this fight pretty much ever since his loss.

For the rematch with Usyk, AJ’s new trainer Robert Garcia will collaborate with Angel Fernandez, a man who has previously worked with Joshua camps.

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn earlier revealed to Journalist’s that Usyk’s camp preferred Saudi Arabia because it would maximize fight revenues despite AJ’s camp’s preference for the UK.

Hearn said they had three of four proposals to mull over for AJ and Usyk, but Saudi Arabia was the most lucrative

“We would want it to take place in England because AJ needs to win, and it’s always advantageous to have home field advantage, but one problem is that there is a financial split, and Team Usyk will undoubtedly want to make as much money as possible from that fight. In April, Hearn said, “Comprehensible.

“So we have to look at the other options and there is a lot more money to do the fight elsewhere. If we had our way, London would be the choice because it’s an important fight for AJ to win obviously,” Hearn state
